The sgptData_LONG data set contains student assessment data in LONG format for 8 windows (3 windows annually). It contains 7 required variables for running SGP analyses (VALID_CASE, CONTENT_AREA, YEAR, ID, SCALE_SCORE, GRADE and ACHIEVEMENT_LEVEL). LAST_NAME and FIRST_NAME are additional demographic/student categorization variables used for creating student aggregates by the summarizeSGP function.
In addition to displaying student growth information, the data set sgptData_LONG provides data on student-instructor pairs. It contains an anonymized, student-instructor lookup table that is associated with each test record. This table shows which teacher the student was assigned to for each test in a content area over a year. A student can be associated with multiple teachers in a single content area during a year, and each teacher will have a different instructor number for each student.
Student growth percentiles, or SGP scores, are an indicator of relative student growth from one testing window to another. SGP is measured on a 1-99 scale, where higher numbers indicate more relative growth, and lower numbers indicate less relative growth. For example, a student’s SGP score of 50 indicates that their current SGP is in the middle of their academic peers in their grade level.
SGP scores are often used by educators to track student progress and identify if students are making adequate progress, or if they have not made as much progress as expected. Teachers and administrators also use SGP to compare student growth over time across their schools, school districts or states.
sGP is an important molecule in the host response to EBOV infection, and is involved at several stages of EVD pathogenesis. However, the precise role of sGP in EVD pathogenesis is unclear and warrants further investigation. Several roles have been suggested, ranging from restoration of barrier functions of endothelial cells to modulation of the immune response.
sGP has also been shown to influence the expression of many inflammatory genes, including interleukin-6, IL-1, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and thus may play an important role in mediating inflammation during EVD infection. As a result, understanding the role of sGP during EVD pathogenesis could lead to new therapies and vaccines that can improve patient outcomes. In particular, sGP has been demonstrated to enhance the activation of dendritic cells by IL-1 and IL-18. It has also been shown to promote the migration of monocytes to sites of viral infection by enhancing macrophage polarization. These results suggest that sGP plays a critical role in the early stage of EBOV infections. sGP could be an attractive target for development of a new anti-EBOV treatment. To this end, several groups have been conducting research on sGP, including studies in human models. These experiments have shown that sGP is highly conserved between mammalian species and has potential therapeutic applications. Nevertheless, there is no clinical evidence to date that sGP is effective against EVD.
