The HK Prize 2024

The Hong Kong Prize is one of Asia’s premier high school contests honoring academic achievement and extracurricular participation while cultivating young people with a spirit of self-challenge. In addition to monetary awards, students may win international recognition and the opportunity to attend an award ceremony in Beijing. If any participant violates the provisions of the Charter, the Board reserves the right to terminate the award and withdraw the prize money, certificate and trophy.

The HK Prize 2024 was awarded to marble sculptor Sameen Agha for her piece “A Home Is a Terrible Place to Love,” which captures human suffering by depicting an apparently decaying home. This is the first time that a female artist has won the prize. The prestigious HK Prize is presented by the HK Alliance of Technology and Innovation and sponsored by BOC Hong Kong Limited. It is an encouragement for scientific researchers and innovators to persist in innovative exploration and contribute to the social development of Hong Kong and beyond.

BOC Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Prize was established in 2022 with the support of BOC and the HKSAR Government, to encourage more young Academy Fellows to explore clinical research and healthcare-related humanities topics and promote exchanges between scholars from Hong Kong and mainland China on such subjects. The award, with its three focuses, will also help to develop a better understanding of the inter-linkages between different disciplines and sectors and enhance collaborations in the fields of artificial intelligence, robotics and life sciences.

This year’s finalists were selected by a jury consisting of representatives from the business, community, academia and culture sectors, as well as members of the public. Their outstanding contributions exemplify the spirit of the award and the guiding principles of the BOCHK Foundation.

In addition to monetary prizes, the winning entries will be showcased in a rotating exhibition and at sister hotel The Hari London and London-based art gallery A Space for Art. An award night and charity auction will also be held to raise funds for Justice Centre Hong Kong, a local non-governmental organisation that helps displaced refugees.

The HK Prize celebrates the true heroes of Hong Kong, who might not be famous or even recognised, but are making a real difference to society through their tireless efforts and unfailing commitment. These individuals might be ordinary, and their stories might not make the news headlines, but they embody the true spirit of Hong Kong and inspire us all. For more information, click here.
