The Sidney Prize and Other Prizes

The Sidney Prize is awarded monthly for outstanding investigative journalism that exposes social and economic injustice. Nominations may be made for articles that appeared in newspapers, magazines, radio and television during the previous month. The deadline for submissions is the last Wednesday of each month. Winners are announced the first Monday of the following month. The prize was established in memory of the late Sidney Cox. The purpose of the prize is to encourage undergraduate writing which most nearly meets the high standards of originality and integrity set by Mr. Cox in his teaching and in his book, Indirections for Those Who Want to Write. Students of any major are eligible to submit papers; the prize is not limited to undergraduates enrolled in English courses.
