The city is known for shopping, dim sum and its high-rise buildings, but it also has a number of picturesque pools. From the world’s highest pool to a natural infinity pond on a mountainside, here are a few of Hong Kong’s coolest spots for a swim.
Located on the 118th floor of the Ritz-Carlton, this is one of the most spectacular swimming pools in the world. It offers sweeping vistas of Victoria Harbour, and is especially breathtaking during sunrise or sunset. The pool is also a great place to take photos and create memories with friends and family.
The HK$17 admission fee is well worth it, as the view is unsurpassed by any other in the city. You can also eat a hearty meal on the spacious pool deck at Asaya Kitchen, or simply lounge and enjoy the soothing sound of rushing water.
This outdoor complex is one of the most popular public pools in Hong Kong, thanks to its slew of waterslides and fun attractions. It is located on the western edge of Hong Kong Island and is only a few minutes’ walk from Sheung Wan Station. The pools are usually very busy on the weekends, so it is recommended to come during weekdays.
In the 1980s, the Urban Council announced that it would be building more fun pools that would encourage children and adults to use the pool for recreational purposes, rather than just as a means of exercise. These fun pools have special free-form designs and water toys that make swimming even more exciting. The Pao Yue-Kong Swimming Pool complex was the first of its kind when it opened on 9 July 1977.
With seven indoor and outdoor pools, including teaching, diving, leisure and children’s pools, this government-owned complex is a hub of aquatic activity in the south of the city. Its unique zinc construction was chosen to minimize glare and maintain a consistent color, and the transparent, insulated tensile roof was a first for China. It was provided by Shanghai Taiyo Kogyo Corporation, a Birdair sister company.
